Nashik Project To Unlock Gangapur Dam Water Reserve

Nashik has water stored at the bottom of Gangapur Dam that normally cannot flow out.

This trapped water is called dead storage.

The Nashik Municipal Corporation wants to use rock blasting to make about 600 million cubic feet available.

The project is expected to cost ₹9.82 crore.

The recovered water could supply the city for about one month in an emergency or during very hot weather.

Nashik expects many pilgrims to arrive for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela.

More people could mean a much greater need for water.

Workers will build a cofferdam to move water aside while they carry out the blasting.

The work is planned to finish by the end of March after a work order is issued.
