Police in Tripura were looking for a man accused of stealing a motorcycle and snatching a gold necklace.

The necklace belonged to an elderly woman named Gita Rani Das (Deb).

The alleged theft happened in Agartala on September 11.

Police said the man tried to avoid arrest by cutting his own right hand.

He then went to a hospital for treatment.

Officers searched for him and eventually arrested him while he was still in his hospital bed.

Another person accused in the case had already been detained.

Police also said the stolen necklace had been sold at a jewellery shop.
