STT Collections Rise 52.9% to ₹40,214 Crore in FY27

The government collects a tax called Securities Transaction Tax, or STT, on some stock-market trades.

It collected ₹40,214 crore in STT during the first six months of FY27.

That was 52.9% more than the ₹26,306 crore collected during the same period last year.

The government increased some STT rates on futures and options trades starting April 1.

The tax on selling futures rose from 0.02% to 0.05%.

The tax on selling options rose from 0.10% to 0.15%.

The government hopes to collect ₹73,700 crore in STT during FY27.

Net direct tax collections also increased 13% to ₹12.124 lakh crore by September 17.
