IIT Kanpur has opened a new centre for life sciences and medical technology.

The centre will help turn scientific ideas into useful healthcare products and services.

It can receive up to US$5 million over five years.

Researchers will get help testing ideas, protecting inventions and understanding regulations.

They can also receive support in working with companies and bringing products to market.

The centre will study areas such as medicines, vaccines, medical devices and healthcare artificial intelligence.

Students and researchers may work with doctors, businesses and other experts.

The centre is part of the Wadhwani Innovation Network.
