BWF satisfied with stadium upgrades ahead of World Championships
Badminton is a sport played with rackets and a light shuttlecock.
The best players in the world will compete in the World Championships in a big indoor stadium in New Delhi, India.
Earlier this year, players and officials complained that the stadium was not clean — there were dirty toilets, pigeons, and even monkeys inside.
So the people in charge decided to fix everything.
They spent almost 20 crore rupees on the repairs.
Toilets were renovated, broken seats and ceilings were replaced, wires were fixed, and the roof was waterproofed.
A special gel was put on the roof beams so birds cannot sit there, and about 60 stray dogs were taken away from the area.
Officials visited many times to check on the work and now say they are happy with the stadium.
Cleaning will continue until the tournament starts on August 17.
The Badminton World Federation expressed satisfaction with extensive renovation and cleaning at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, saying most shortcomings highlighted after the India Open have been addressed.
The venue faced sharp criticism during the India Open Super 750 in January over poor hygiene, unclean toilets, and pigeons and monkeys inside the complex.
Nearly ₹20 crore has been invested in the revamp, and Badminton Association of India secretary Sanjay Mishra said preparations began immediately after the India Open with over 1,200 professionals involved.
Renovations include refurbished toilets, replaced seats and ceilings, sealed wiring, roof waterproofing and an anti-pest gel on roof beams, while the Sports Authority of India rounded up about 60 stray dogs.
Cleaning will continue until the World Championships begin on August 17, and Indonesian consultants have been brought in to improve lighting for tournament presentation.
