Massive Crowds Gather for Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani Aagman Procession
A large religious procession began in Mumbai on Saturday.
It carries a Ganesh idol called Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani to its mandap, or temporary shrine.
Many devotees came to welcome the idol.
A video showed some people falling onto one another because the crowd was very large.
Other devotees watched and recorded the procession on their phones.
This year’s idol has a design inspired by Lord Venkateswara, also called Sri Tirupati Balaji.
Police were sent to help manage the crowds and keep the route secure.
People who could not attend in person could watch the procession online.
The journey is expected to finish in Chinchpokli later in the evening.
The Chinchpokli Cha Chintamani Aagman procession began at noon Saturday from the Central Railway Workshop Ground in Parel.
A viral video showed hundreds of devotees falling onto one another as the procession moved forward.
The Ganesh idol unveiled for this year’s celebrations is inspired by Lord Venkateswara, also known as Sri Tirupati Balaji.
Around 800–1,000 police personnel are expected to be deployed along the Lalbaug-Parel procession route.
The procession is scheduled to reach the Chintamani Mandap in Chinchpokli at approximately 10 p.m., though timings may change.
