Jharkhand javelin teen Shilpa Kumari dreams of Olympic glory

Shilpa Kumari is a young girl from a small farming village in Jharkhand, India.

One day, she watched Neeraj Chopra win a gold medal at the Olympics on a television at her village's meeting spot.

That moment made her decide she wanted to win an Olympic medal too.

She took up javelin throwing, a sport where you throw a long spear as far as you can.

A coach named Binod Singh spotted her at a trial and saw she had great natural talent.

She trains at a sports centre in Ranchi, which provides her with coaching, equipment, and food because her family cannot afford them.

Shilpa now holds the Indian record for girls her age in javelin.

She once threw even farther than the older girls' record, but the result was not made official because the competition was not approved by the international rule makers.

Now she hopes to win a medal at the Youth Olympics in Senegal, and someday an Olympic medal, which she wants to dedicate to Neeraj Chopra.
