Rahul Gandhi moves Supreme Court against disproportionate assets order
Rahul Gandhi is a very important leader in India's Parliament.
Someone complained that he has more money and property than he should, compared to his known income.
A court called the Allahabad High Court asked two agencies, the CBI and the ED, to verify these claims.
In May, the High Court ordered those agencies to check the allegations and report their progress.
Rahul Gandhi disagreed with that order and asked the Supreme Court, the highest court in the country, to step in.
The Supreme Court will hear his request on August 17.
The complainant is a worker from a political party called the BJP in the state of Karnataka.
Earlier, on July 20, the court was unhappy with an answer given by the CBI and asked for a fresh one.
Rahul Gandhi also wants the case heard in Delhi instead of Allahabad.
The Allahabad High Court will next hear the matter on August 20.
Rahul Gandhi has approached the Supreme Court challenging Allahabad High Court orders directing the CBI and ED to verify disproportionate assets allegations against him.
The Supreme Court will hear his petition on August 17 before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, also comprising Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana.
The complaint was filed by Vignesh Shishir, a BJP worker from Karnataka, alleging Gandhi possesses assets beyond his known sources of income.
On July 20, the Allahabad High Court found the CBI's affidavit unsatisfactory and directed it to file a fresh affidavit detailing the status of its inquiry.
Gandhi has filed a separate transfer petition seeking to move the proceedings from the Allahabad High Court to the Delhi High Court.
