RBI New Loan Recovery Rules From 2027: Banks Cannot Harass Borrowers, EMI Calls Restricted To 8 AM–7 PM · freepressjournal.in

The Reserve Bank of India is the big bank that makes rules for other banks in India.

It made new rules to protect people who cannot pay back their loans on time.

Banks and their helpers, called recovery agents, usually cannot call borrowers before 8 in the morning or after 7 at night.

They are not allowed to use scary words, threaten people, or share private pictures online.

Before an agent visits someone's home for the first time, they must tell the borrower one day earlier.

Agents must carry an identity card and an official letter.

If someone buys a phone on a loan, the phone can be switched off from far away, but only after 30 days of missed payments — and emergency calls and messages must still work.

When the borrower pays back, the phone must work again within one hour.

If the bank is late, the borrower gets 250 rupees for every hour of delay.

These rules start on January 1, 2027.
