52 J&K Police personnel get gallantry, meritorious service medals
On the day before India's birthday, called Independence Day, a group of brave police officers got shiny medals.
These heroes are police officers from Jammu and Kashmir, a part of India.
Fifty-two of them received medals for being very brave and for doing their jobs really well.
Thirty-eight officers got a medal for bravery because they did very courageous things.
Thirteen officers got a medal for working hard and doing great service.
One person from the Home Guard and Civil Defence also got a medal for good service.
A senior officer, SSP Shoket Hussain Shah, received a very special medal from the President of India.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police help keep people safe and fight bad people who cause trouble.
Many police officers have given their lives to protect everyone.
Since 1989, more than 1,600 officers have made this great sacrifice while fighting terrorism.
Fifty-two J&K Police personnel were awarded gallantry and meritorious service medals on the eve of Independence Day.
The honours include 38 Medals for Gallantry and 13 Medals for Meritorious Service among police personnel.
One J&K Home Guard and Civil Defence personnel also received a meritorious service medal.
SSP Shoket Hussain Shah was awarded the President's Medal for Distinguished Service.
Since 1989, over 1,600 Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel have made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorism.
