India Faces Massive Electric Vehicle Charging Build-Out by 2030
India is adding more places where electric vehicles can recharge.
A report says the country could need 1.32 million charging points by 2030.
It had 67,657 chargers as of August 2026.
Public charging stations have grown quickly since 2022.
However, many chargers are used only a small amount of the time.
Most chargers are slow or lower-powered, while very fast chargers are rare.
This could change as more passenger cars become electric.
Charging companies are testing subscriptions, fleet contracts and other ways to earn money.
The report says building more fast chargers could be a major opportunity.

Public EV charging stations increased nearly six-fold, from 5,000 in 2022 to 29,151 by December 2025.
Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh lead deployment, while the top 10 states account for 78% of the network.
Most chargers are used at only 1–5% capacity, creating challenges involving station economics, electricity costs and revenue models.
About 73% of chargers are below 30 kW, while only nine are rated above 240 kW.
