IIT Kanpur Hosts First FIDE-Rated Rapid Chess Tournament
IIT Kanpur is hosting its first-ever FIDE-rated Open Rapid Chess Tournament on February 7, 2026.
This big chess event is open to players from all over India and will take place at the Yoga Hall in the New Students’ Activity Centre (SAC) on the IIT Kanpur campus.
The tournament will have 9 rounds and each player will have 10 minutes plus 5 extra seconds for each move.
There is a total prize money of ₹2,00,000, with the winner getting ₹40,000.
There are also special prizes for different categories like the best woman player, best veteran, and top IIT Kanpur players.
Additionally, there are awards for the best young players in different age groups.
You can sign up to play until February 3, 2026.

The total prize pool is ₹2,00,000, with special prizes for various categories including Best Veteran, Best Woman, and top IIT Kanpur players, as well as awards for junior age categories.
