IndiGo Flight Lands Safely in Chennai After Left Engine Failure
An airplane was flying from the city of Kolkata to the city of Chennai in India.
Just before it was going to land, one of its two engines stopped working and started leaking oil.
The pilots told the air traffic controllers at the airport right away.
The airport declared a big emergency and got fire trucks, rescue vehicles, and medical teams ready near the runway.
The pilots landed the plane safely anyway.
There were 224 people on the plane, and everyone was safe.
After checking the plane, the airport ended the emergency about ten minutes later.
Other planes at the airport kept flying normally.
On the same day, some passengers at Kolkata's other airport protested because their Air India Express flight to Chennai was delayed by a technical problem.
IndiGo flight 6E-723, travelling from Kolkata to Chennai, suffered a left engine inoperative condition, including an oil leak, during its final approach late Tuesday night.
A full emergency was declared at Chennai International Airport at 11:29 pm IST on August 11, with 224 persons on board.
The aircraft landed safely on Runway 25 at 11:37 pm IST, and the full emergency was formally withdrawn at 11:47 pm IST.
Chennai Airport Authority confirmed that all passengers and crew were safe and that all airport operations had returned to normal.
In a separate incident, passengers protested at Kolkata's Dum Dum Airport after an Air India Express flight to Chennai was delayed by a technical problem.
