Special survey targets coffee berry borer across tribal plantations
A small insect called the coffee berry borer can hurt coffee plants and reduce the quality of coffee beans.
The district administration wants to find the insect early.
It will survey coffee farms in 35 tribal villages.
Fifty teams will check almost 2,500 acres of plantations.
The teams will look for damaged coffee berries and measure how serious the problem is.
Officials may provide special traps and lures to find and control the pest.
They will also use Beauveria bassiana, a biological control method.
Farmers are being taught how to spot the pest and report it quickly.
