Girl Dies After Falling Into Borewell While Tying Rakhi
Chutki Sharma was preparing to tie a rakhi on her brother during Raksha Bandhan.
She was standing on soil covering an old borewell in her home’s courtyard.
The soil suddenly collapsed, and she fell about 20 feet.
Rescue workers from several emergency agencies came to help.
They dug a second pit next to the borewell to reach her.
They worked carefully because the ground and house could also collapse.
Chutki was brought out and taken to a health centre.
Doctors said she had already died.
Her family believes the abandoned borewell and recent rain may have weakened the ground.
A 16-year-old girl fell into a nearly 20-foot-deep abandoned borewell in Purwamir village, Kanpur, on Friday morning.
The ground caved in as Chutki Sharma reached to tie a rakhi on her brother’s wrist.
Around 60 NDRF, SDRF and fire department personnel conducted the rescue operation.
Rescuers dug a parallel pit using excavators because the surrounding ground and house were unstable.
The girl was taken to Sarsaul Primary Health Centre, where doctors declared her brought dead.
