Indian Fencers Dominate U-23 Championship, Winning 24 Medals

Some really good fencers from India went to Lagos, Nigeria, for a big sports competition.

Fencing is a sport where two people fight with special swords and try to score points by touching each other.

The competition is called the U-23 Commonwealth Fencing Championship, which means the fencers are 23 years old or younger and come from Commonwealth countries.

On the very first day, the Indian fencers did amazingly and won 17 medals — four gold, four silver, and nine bronze.

On the second day, they won seven more medals, bringing their total to 24 medals, including five gold medals.

The fencers compete in three kinds of events: Sabre, Foil, and Epee, which are different types of swords.

A fencer named Tanishka Khatri won gold in the Senior Women's Epee on day two, and teammates like Khushi Dabhade and Prachi Lohan also won medals.

The competition started on Sunday and will run until August 14.

The people in charge of fencing in India were very proud and congratulated all the winners, their coaches, their support staff, and their families.
