India Rebukes NYT Over 'Pakistani Kashmir' Claim and Reaffirms
The Indian Embassy in the United States said the New York Times used the wrong name for a region.
It called the headline "misleading and incorrect" and said there is no "Pakistani Kashmir".
The embassy said the area is part of India and that Pakistan illegally occupies it.
It also said Pakistan is using violence against people there.
The embassy’s message came after the New York Times wrote about protests and elections in the area, where many people were hurt or killed.
Indian Embassy in the US condemned NYT headline calling the region "Pakistani Kashmir" as misleading and incorrect.
Embassy reiterated that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are integral, inalienable parts of India.
Embassy accused Pakistan of illegally occupying parts of the territories and using violence against residents.
The objection followed a NYT report on unrest and local elections in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, citing at least 30 deaths and clashes with the Joint Awami Action Committee.
India has consistently maintained sovereign jurisdiction over the entire region, rejecting any terminology that legitimises Pakistan’s occupation.
