Jammu Railways Launches Cement Freight, Revises Station Access
Jammu division used its railway tracks to send cement from Kathua to Anantnag for the first time.
The shipment contained about 66 tonnes of cement.
Ganpati Cement booked the shipment in one railway wagon.
Before this, cement going to the Kashmir Valley was usually transported by road.
Railway officials say trains may move the material more safely, cheaply and cleanly.
The shipment may also help the railway earn more freight revenue.
Separately, Jammu Tawi station is being rebuilt and will temporarily change how passengers enter and leave.
From September 16, boarding passengers will use the Platform 1 side, while arriving passengers will leave through the Narwal side.

Ganpati Cement dispatched about 66 tonnes, or nearly 1,320 bags, in a single BCN wagon.
Officials said rail transport could offer Kashmir faster, safer, more economical and cleaner freight movement.
Jammu Tawi station will change passenger entry and exit routes from September 16 during redevelopment.
Boarding passengers will enter from Platform 1, while arriving passengers will exit through the Narwal side.
