India's ethanol supplies cross 800 crore litres; grain-based share hits 76%
Ethanol is a special fuel made from plants that can power cars in a cleaner way.
India has been making a lot of it this year.
In fact, the country has passed a very big number: more than 800 crore litres of ethanol have been made so far this year.
A crore is a very large number in India, bigger than a million.
Most of this ethanol is being made from grains like maize, which is corn, and rice.
About 76 out of every 100 litres of ethanol made in July came from grain.
Some ethanol is also made from sugar crops, like sugarcane.
The people who make ethanol say this is a big achievement for India.
They now want more cars and fuel stations to use ethanol.
This way, the factories that make ethanol will not waste their extra capacity, and India can have cleaner fuel.
India's cumulative ethanol supplies crossed the 800-crore-litre mark in Ethanol Supply Year 2025-26, per All India Distillers' Association (AIDA) data.
A total of 93 crore litres of ethanol was supplied in July, with grain-based feedstocks contributing 71 crore litres.
The grain-based share of monthly supplies rose to about 76% in July from approximately 73% in June.
Maize and surplus Food Corporation of India (FCI) grains each contributed 30 crore litres, accounting for nearly 85% of grain-based ethanol supplies in July.
Sugarcane-based feedstocks contributed 22 crore litres in July, down from 28 crore litres in June.
AIDA's Bharati Balaji said the next step is creating sufficient demand for the expanded production capacity through higher ethanol blends and Flex-Fuel Vehicles.
