M K Stalin announced that the DMK will change how its party is organised.

The number of party districts will rise from 77 to 110.

Most districts will include two or three Assembly constituencies.

Sholinganallur will become its own district because it is very large and densely populated.

Chennai will have 10 party districts.

Local party leaders must suggest changes to smaller party units within about two weeks.

The changes are based on recommendations from a party committee and discussions with senior leaders.

Stalin said the reorganisation is meant to renew the party after its Assembly election defeat.

The changes will take place before the DMK’s 16th organisational election.
