Jammu Traffic Drive Targets Two-Wheeler Violations After 88 Deaths
Traffic police studied road crashes in four Jammu districts during the first seven months of the year.
They found 699 accidents, which killed 88 people and injured 1,001 others.
Motorcycles and other two-wheelers were involved in 309 of these crashes.
Many riders were not wearing helmets, and some people were riding dangerously or using phones while driving.
Police ran a special enforcement campaign from September 1 to 14.
They issued more than 8,000 challans and seized 187 vehicles.
They also held hundreds of safety programmes for students and the public.
In some places, officers counseled riders instead of issuing fines to help them understand safer driving.
