Middle East Patient’s Pancreatic Cyst Treated Without Abdominal Surgery
A patient from the Middle East had a large fluid-filled cyst near her pancreas for more than a year.
The cyst began after she had inflammation caused by gallstones.
It caused pain, weight loss and trouble eating.
It also pressed on a tube called the common bile duct.
She traveled to India because she was worried about having regular surgery.
Doctors at Artemis Hospitals used a flexible medical camera and ultrasound to reach the cyst.
They placed a small metal stent between the cyst and the stomach.
The stent let the fluid drain into the stomach without making a cut in the abdomen.
The hospital said the procedure took about 30 minutes and allowed a short hospital stay.

The pseudocyst developed after acute gallstone pancreatitis and had persisted for more than a year.
The patient experienced abdominal pain, substantial weight loss, difficulty eating and common bile duct compression.
Doctors performed EUS-guided cystogastrostomy using a Hot AXIOS Lumen-Apposing Metal Stent.
The approximately 30-minute procedure created an internal drainage channel and required only a short hospital stay, according to the hospital.
