India has 86,360 PG medical seats; no diploma-to-DNB conversion plan

Doctors who finish medical school sometimes want to learn more and become specialists.

India counted all the places, called seats, where doctors can learn these special skills.

The government found that India has more than 86,000 of these special-doctor seats.

The state of Karnataka has the most seats of all the states.

A minister named J P Nadda told the Parliament that there is no plan to turn all diploma courses into degree courses.

The government wants to add 5,000 more of these seats over the next few years.

Medical colleges must follow rules about teachers, buildings, and equipment before they can get new seats.

Some national medical courses cost the same everywhere, at 1.25 lakh rupees a year.

For many other medical courses, each state government decides how much students pay.

This helps people know how many doctors can train and where they can study.
