ESIC Launches Technology Crackdown On ₹2,473 Crore Unpaid Contributions
The ESIC collects money from employers to help provide health and social security benefits to workers.

The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation is pursuing ₹2,473 crore through 6.45 lakh recovery certificates pending for more than a decade.
The certificates involve employers who allegedly failed to pay required contributions, interest, or damages under the Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948.
ESIC is using WhatsApp chatbot messages and data-based nudges to encourage employers to pay before resorting to coercive recovery measures.
The campaign recovered ₹37.24 crore in 1,479 cases by May 19, with total eventual recoveries expected by ESIC sources to exceed ₹150 crore.
Recovery is delayed by court challenges, insolvency proceedings, company closures, bankruptcies, untraceable employers, and a lack of attachable assets.
