POWERGRID posts Profit After Tax of Rs 3,598 crore
POWERGRID is the company that runs India's giant electricity highways, the tall towers and wires that carry power from faraway plants to cities and villages.
The company just told everyone how much money it made in the first three months of its financial year, which ended on June 30.
It made a very large profit of about Rs 3,598 crore, which is a huge pile of money.
It also earned more than Rs 11,000 crore in total income during that time.
A big part of that money is being used to build new power lines, because the company spent about Rs 7,765 crore on new projects.
It even borrowed money from a Japanese bank to help build a very long power line between Khavda and Nagpur.
POWERGRID keeps the power grid working almost all of the time, about 99.8 percent, so electricity keeps flowing to people's homes.
It also won contracts to build five new transmission projects that will help bring more renewable energy into the grid.
So the news is that the company that moves India's electricity is making money while making the grid bigger and stronger.
POWERGRID posted a consolidated Profit After Tax of Rs 3,598 crore and total income of Rs 11,697 crore for Q1FY27 ended June 30.
On a standalone basis, the company posted a Profit After Tax of Rs 3,411 crore and total income of Rs 11,370 crore.
The company incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 7,765 crore and capitalised assets worth Rs 5,277 crore during the quarter.
POWERGRID secured a JPY 80 billion loan from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) for the Khavda-Nagpur HVDC Transmission Project.
