An airport in Jewar, Uttar Pradesh, has been renamed Narendra Modi International Airport.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced the decision on Friday.

The state Cabinet approved it.

The airport was previously called Noida International Airport.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated its first phase on March 28, according to one report.

Its first arriving flight was an IndiGo plane from Lucknow on June 15.

The airport is intended to help connect Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region by air.

The state says it is developing the airport as a major aviation and transport hub.
