Experienced Professionals Drive Shift Toward Applied AI Upskilling
More experienced workers are signing up to learn how to use AI at work.
They are not only learning what AI is, but also how to build tools that solve business problems.
Course providers say interest in AI learning is growing.
Some learners want to do their current jobs better, while others are preparing for new AI-related jobs.
Freshers still take courses, but they make up a smaller share of enrolments at some providers.
People are learning about AI agents, which can carry out tasks, as well as ways to use AI in areas such as security and business planning.
Some programmes are designed for senior leaders.
Companies are also creating courses for people who can turn AI ideas into working solutions.
Simplilearn reports AI course enrolments up more than 40% year-on-year, with agentic AI courses growing over 100% among working professionals.
Coursera says AI course enrolments in India rose around 37% in the first half of 2026, with about five GenAI enrolments per minute.
At upGrad, freshers account for about 20% of enrolments, down from around 30%, while learners with more than 10 years’ experience have nearly doubled.
Learners are moving beyond AI fundamentals toward practical applications, including AI agents, multi-agent systems, AI strategy, and production-ready applications.
Scaler’s dedicated 12-month AI Forward Deployed Engineer programme has passed 100 enrolments about six weeks after launch.
