Governor launches PNG supply as Chandigarh expands city gas network
High-level meeting held on expanding city gas network in Chandigarh · thehansindia.com

Important people from a government group called the Gas Board visited Chandigarh to talk about bringing more natural gas to homes.

Natural gas is a cleaner fuel that people can use for cooking, instead of the heavy cylinders many homes use.

Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria turned on the new gas supply at his own house, Raj Bhavan, to show how it works.

Almost five lakh families have already switched to natural gas.

More than five lakh extra families have asked to get natural gas since March this year.

The government wants more people to use natural gas because a crisis in West Asia has made the old fuel harder to get.

People are also being asked to use electric cooktops and to save energy.

The Gas Board also made a new pricing rule so that gas costs the same for everyone, no matter how far they live from the source.

This new rule started on April 1, 2023.
