Kerala Court Hears Bail Plea of Expelled MLA

A court in Kerala heard the bail plea of an expelled Congress MLA named Rahul Mamkootathil.

He was arrested for a third sexual assault case.

The court heard the arguments behind closed doors and will decide on January 17.

The MLA claims his arrest was illegal and that he had a consensual relationship with the complainant.

There are two other sexual assault cases against him, but he has protection from arrest in those.

Additionally, a Mahila Congress leader named Renjitha Pulickan was arrested for allegedly revealing the identity of the rape survivor on social media.

The court will decide if the MLA should be released on bail.
