Contractor Booked For Wrong-Side Driving In Coastal Road Tunnel
Police in Mumbai say a man drove a car the wrong way through a Coastal Road tunnel.
They said this could have seriously hurt him and other drivers.
The incident happened late on August 19, 2026.
Police officers reportedly told him to stop.
They said he did not stop and drove away.
Police also alleged that he did not have a valid driving licence.
The car’s owner was also booked.
Police said the owner knew about the licence problem but still allowed him to drive.
Several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Motor Vehicles Act were applied.
Gamdevi police booked 37-year-old Datta Daji Zinjurde for allegedly driving the wrong way inside Mumbai’s Coastal Road tunnel.
The incident reportedly occurred between 10:05 p.m. and 10:15 p.m. on August 19, 2026.
Police said Zinjurde ignored signals to stop and allegedly fled while continuing in the wrong direction.
Police also alleged that Zinjurde was driving without a valid licence and endangered other motorists.
Car owner Farooq Sheikh was booked for allegedly allowing Zinjurde to drive despite knowing he lacked a valid licence.
