Indian Panel Gives Zuckerberg Three-Day Deadline Over Modi Video
In India, there is a special rule that protects websites from getting in trouble for things people post on them.
This protection is called Safe Harbour.
A company called Meta, which owns Facebook, took down a video of India's leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The video was about a big school exam called NEET.
Some Indian politicians were very upset that the video was removed.
They said it was unfair to the 1.4 billion people of India.
The politicians told Meta's boss, Mark Zuckerberg, to say sorry within three days.
They said they might file a case against him and the company.
They might also take away Meta's special protection.
If that happens, Meta could be in big trouble for things people post on Facebook.
India's Parliamentary Committee on Communications and Information Technology gave Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg a three-day deadline to apologise for briefly removing PM Narendra Modi's Facebook video.
The committee, headed by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, labelled the removal of the July 23 video about the NEET examination controversy a serious issue and an 'attack on democracy'.
The panel said PM Modi represents 1.4 billion Indians and demanded Meta take action against those responsible for the removal.
The committee warned that if Meta fails to act, it may recommend stripping the company of its Safe Harbour protection, and a case may be filed.
Safe harbour, under Section 79 of India's Information Technology Act, shields platforms including Meta, YouTube and X from liability for user-uploaded content.
