Seven-year-old boy allegedly strangled by stepmother in Malda
Something very sad happened in a place called Malda.
A seven-year-old boy named Nihan was badly hurt at night.
Police think his stepmother, Ruma, hurt him.
Nihan's father works far away and lives outside Bengal.
Nihan was a student in Class I. In the morning, his family could not find him and went into the house.
They found him lying very still in his room.
They rushed him to a small hospital, but the doctors said he had died.
The family told the police what happened.
Now the police are asking questions and waiting for medical tests to find out the truth.
A seven-year-old boy, Nihan Ahmed, was allegedly strangled to death by his stepmother Ruma Khatun in Malda district on Friday night.
Relatives and neighbours forced their way into the family's rented home in Old 18 Mile on Saturday morning and found the boy motionless inside his room.
The boy, a Class I student, was taken to the rural hospital in Bedrabad, where doctors declared him dead.
Nihan's uncle, Kismat Ali, alleged that Ruma had been regularly torturing the child.
Police recovered the body, sent it for post-mortem to Malda Medical College & Hospital, and detained Ruma for questioning while the probe continues.
