Google's Health Guardian Adds AI-Powered Blood Pressure and Insulin Trends
Google is making new health tools for smartwatches called Health Guardian.
These tools work quietly in the background all day and night.
They look at patterns in your body's information to spot slow changes over time.
One tool can guess if your insulin levels are slowly changing, without needing a blood test.
Another tool can show trends in your blood pressure without using an arm cuff.
A third tool watches how well you breathe while you sleep.
A fourth tool can tell if your blood oxygen drops very low and can call for emergency help if you do not respond.
The tools give you a summary of your trends once a month.
Google trained the tools using data from millions of people who agreed to share it, and says research supporting the technology was published in the journal Nature.
Google says these tools are helpful, but they are not the same as a doctor's diagnosis.
Google announced Health Guardian, a set of AI-powered health features coming to the Google Health app for eligible Pixel Watch and Fitbit devices.
The tools analyze physiological data around the clock to spot long-term changes, with monthly trend summaries and notifications when something needs attention.
Health Guardian features include insulin resistance trends without a blood sample, blood pressure trends without a cuff, sleep breathing quality, and breathing emergency detection.
Breathing emergency detection can automatically contact emergency services after a critical blood-oxygen drop and is limited to Pixel Watch and select European countries.
The features were announced alongside the Pixel Watch 5, which goes on sale in India on August 20 with pre-orders from August 12; Google says the features are not a medical diagnosis.
