IMD forecasts widespread rain across central, northeast India; monsoon activity to stay subdued over peninsular region · livemint.com

India’s weather department expects rain in many parts of central, eastern and northeastern India.

A low-pressure area may cause very heavy rain in east Madhya Pradesh on 22 August.

Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are expected to receive widespread rain during much of the week.

Several northeastern states may also get widespread rain on different days.

Uttarakhand and parts of eastern India are likely to stay wet as well.

Most of southern peninsular India is expected to get only scattered rain.

Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe and Lakshadweep are exceptions and may get more widespread rain.

Some northeastern districts could experience flash floods because the ground is already saturated.

Overall rainfall since 1 June has remained below normal, even though July was slightly wetter than usual.
