KRMB Orders Telangana to Halt Hydel Use at Two Reservoirs
The Krishna River Management Board helps manage shared river water.
It told Telangana to stop making electricity with water from the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.
It also objected to using water for electricity at the Srisailam power centre.
The Board said there is only a limited amount of water available.
It said drinking water should come first.
Telangana and Andhra Pradesh must follow rules in the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014.
Representatives from both states argued about how the water was being used.
They did not agree on water sharing, so another meeting will be held at the end of September.
The Krishna River Management Board directed Telangana to immediately stop hydel power generation at Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir.
The Board objected to Telangana using Krishna River water for power generation at the Srisailam centre.
KRMB said limited water resources should be prioritised for drinking-water requirements.
The meeting ended without an agreement on water allocation between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
KRMB scheduled another meeting for the end of September after allegations of illegal withdrawals.
