Each real handmade item now gets a special kind of barcode, called a QR code.
When you scan it with a mobile phone, you can learn all about the item.

That way, buyers know they are getting something real and special.
It also helps the artists get credit for their hard work.
The state plans to put these codes on many more handmade items in the future.
Andhra Pradesh launched a QR code-based authentication and information system for handicrafts to boost transparency and curb counterfeit products.
The system was developed by the Andhra Pradesh Handicrafts Development Corporation (Lepakshi) following a suggestion by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.
Scanning the QR code gives buyers details on product history, cultural significance, artisan information, raw materials, production timelines, and dimensions.
In the first phase, QR profiles cover eight iconic products, including the Bobbili Veena, Kalamkari artworks, and Savara tribal paintings.
Lepakshi claims it is the first such initiative in the country, with plans to expand it to all handicraft products and artisan clusters across the state.
