Mumbai Immerses Over 61,600 Ganesh Idols After One-and-a-Half Days

Mumbai celebrated the first part of its Ganesh festival with prayers and processions.

After one-and-a-half days, many families and public groups took their idols for immersion.

Officials said 61,640 idols were immersed by 6 a.m.

Wednesday.

Most of them belonged to households.

A smaller number came from public Ganapati groups.

Ninety-two Hartalika idols were immersed too.

The city prepared special immersion places, including artificial ponds.

The festival will continue and finish on September 25, when more idols will be immersed.
