Odisha Farmer Rescued After Three Hours Clinging to Tree
Floodwater can rise very fast and catch people by surprise.
A farmer was working in a field in India when water suddenly rushed in around him.
He could not walk through the deep water, so he climbed a tree to stay safe.
The rain kept falling and the water stayed high for a long time.
He stayed up in the tree for almost three hours.
His friends could not reach him, so they called for help.
A rescue team arrived and brought him down safely.
He was then taken to a hospital to be checked by doctors.
The heavy rain caused problems in many places nearby.
A few days before, two other people also had to climb trees when water swept them away while bathing.
A farmer in Odisha's Sundargarh district was stranded atop a tree for nearly three hours after a sudden surge of floodwater swept into his field near Bijadihi.
The farmer and others were harvesting pointed gourd when the rapidly rising water cut off access to higher ground.
Fellow farmers and local residents were unable to bring him to safety and sought help from authorities.
A Fire Services team launched a rescue operation and safely brought the farmer out; he was taken to Gurundia hospital for medical attention.
The incident came amid heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha, days after two youths were swept away while bathing in Keonjhar and Jagatsinghpur districts on July 31.
