Online fertiliser distribution system rolls out in Thane Aug 15
Farmers in Thane, a district in Maharashtra, India, are getting a new way to buy fertiliser using their mobile phones.
The government has created a special digital platform called 'Framework for Fertiliser Sale'.
Before, farmers had to travel to agriculture centres, sometimes for no reason if fertiliser was not available.
Now they can check from home whether fertiliser is in stock.
They can book their order with a nearby registered dealer.
Farmers register using their Aadhaar or farmer ID and receive a QR code and a token number.
When they visit the dealer, they show the QR code to collect their fertiliser.
This saves time and travel costs.
The system was tested successfully in two other districts before coming to Thane.
The rollout in Thane begins on August 15.
The 'Framework for Fertiliser Sale' digital platform will be implemented across Thane district in Maharashtra from August 15.
The system allows farmers to check real-time fertiliser stocks and book orders directly via their mobile phones.
It was piloted in 56 districts across 23 states and trialled successfully in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Kolhapur.
Farmers register via Aadhaar or a farmer ID to receive a QR code and token number for collecting their quota.
Thane has 1,38,862 farmers across 59,831 hectares of Kharif crop area, with officials confirming no fertiliser shortage.
