AICTE approves 5,099 new institutions; computer applications, management lead
A group in India called the All India Council for Technical Education, or AICTE, checks and approves technical colleges.
This year, it said yes to 5,099 new schools for the 2024-25 school year.
These new schools can teach about 750,000 students in total.
Most of the new schools are for computer applications and management studies.
Computer applications schools got the most seats, with around 366,000.
Management schools are next with about 348,000 seats.
Together, these two types of schools cover more than 710,000 of the new seats.
Engineering and technology schools got only a small part of the new approval.
The information comes from AICTE's Annual Report for 2024-25.
AICTE granted Letters of Approval (LoAs) to 5,099 new institutions for the 2024-25 academic year.
The newly approved institutions add a total approved intake of 7,49,872 seats.
Computer Applications led with 3,959 approved institutions and an approved intake of 3,65,848 students.
Management followed with 3,500 approved institutions and an approved intake of 3,47,644.
Computer Applications and Management together account for over 7.1 lakh of the 7.5 lakh seats approved, while engineering and technology had a much smaller share.
