India’s Steel Output Rises as Global Production Slips in July
India made more steel in July than it did during the same month last year.
Its production increased by 1.9% to 14.4 million tonnes.
India stayed the second-biggest steel producer in the world.
However, total steel production around the world decreased slightly.
China, the biggest producer, made less steel than a year earlier.

India’s crude steel production rose 1.9% year-on-year to 14.4 million tonnes in July.
India remained the world’s second-largest steel producer, with January–July output up 6.1% to 101.1 million tonnes.
Global crude steel production fell 0.3% year-on-year to 149.2 million tonnes in July across 70 reporting countries.
China’s July production declined 3.6% to 76.9 million tonnes, contributing to the global downturn.
January–July global production fell 0.6% to 1,081.2 million tonnes amid uneven demand and regional market conditions.
