Mumbai Ganeshotsav Pandals Welcome Animals With Prayer And Welfare Initiatives
Mumbai’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations will include animals this year.
Some festival locations, called pandals, will allow pets and stray animals to enter.
Organisers say stray animals will not be chased away from one pandal.
They will also provide food and places for the animals to rest.
One celebration will show Lord Ganesha as Kaalbhairav with a black dog.
Another group plans to feed street dogs twice each day.
It will also vaccinate dogs and give about 1,500 of them bright identification collars.
These activities are meant to teach people to care for animals and protect them.
Several Mumbai Ganeshotsav pandals will welcome pets and stray animals during this year’s celebrations.
Colaba’s mandal will feature Kaalbhairav with a black dog and provide strays food, shelter and a special maha-aarti.
Kandivalicha Adhipati will feed street dogs twice daily until visarjan and conduct rabies vaccinations.
Around 1,500 street dogs are planned to receive radium collars through a partnership with JeevOne Welfare Foundation.
Organisers will raise awareness about animal cruelty, illegal wildlife trade, plastic pollution, habitat loss and water scarcity.
