Chennai Corporation Intensifies Monsoon Preparations Across North Chennai Zones
The Greater Chennai Corporation is getting North Chennai ready for the monsoon.
Officials checked preparations in Royapuram and Thiru.
Vi.
Ka.
Nagar.
Workers are building and cleaning stormwater drains so rainwater can flow away.
Several water bodies are also being restored.
Pumps and heavy machines have been placed in areas that may flood.
Relief centres and kitchens are ready to help people if needed.
Health Minister K.G. Arunraj told officials to speed up the work.
The remaining projects are supposed to be finished by September.
The Greater Chennai Corporation reviewed monsoon preparations in North Chennai’s Royapuram and Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar zones.
In Royapuram, stormwater drain work covers 1.16 km, with 474 metres completed and 413 metres under way.
Royapuram has restored 26 of 33 water bodies and prepared equipment, 13 relief centres and two centralised kitchens.
Thiru. Vi. Ka. Nagar has completed 8.935 km of 10.376 km of stormwater drain work and 910 metres of canal improvements.
Officials were directed to intensify precautions and complete the remaining works by September.
