India’s Space Ambitions Expand From Moon to Mars, Venus
India celebrates National Space Day every August 23 because its Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft successfully landed on the Moon.
India was the first country to reach the Moon’s south pole and one of only four countries to make a soft lunar landing.
Its space program is also studying the Sun through the Aditya L1 mission.
India reached Mars on its first attempt with the Mangalyaan spacecraft.
