IIT Hyderabad Professor Honoured for Research on Falling Raindrops

Kirti Chandra Sahu grew up in a poor village in Odisha.

He studied hard because he believed education could help him find a job.

His family made sacrifices so he could continue studying, including his younger brother, who became a taxi driver.

Sahu later discovered that he enjoyed scientific research.

He became the first faculty member of IIT Hyderabad’s Chemical Engineering Department.

His team studies how raindrops change while falling from clouds.

They built a special machine that keeps drops floating in air while copying weather conditions.

This work may help scientists measure rain more accurately and improve warnings for dangerous weather.

Sahu is receiving a national teachers’ award for his teaching and research.
