Fake Cop Allegedly Steals ₹38,900 From Pune Man
A man in Pune was allegedly tricked and threatened by someone pretending to be a police officer.
The incident happened early Sunday morning.
The fake officer approached the man and his two friends on a motorcycle.
He reportedly scared them into moving money through PhonePe.
The friends first sent money to the complainant’s account.
The accused then allegedly obtained the complainant’s phone password and PhonePe PIN.
He transferred ₹38,900 from the account.
The man reported the incident to Wanowrie police.
Police have registered a case and are trying to identify the accused.
A 28-year-old Wanowrie resident was allegedly robbed of ₹38,900 near Mamba Devi Chowk.
The accused reportedly approached the man and two friends on a motorcycle around 3:45am Sunday.
Claiming to be a police officer, the accused allegedly intimidated the group.
He allegedly made the friends transfer money to the complainant’s PhonePe account.
After obtaining the complainant’s phone password and PhonePe PIN, the accused allegedly transferred the money and fled.
