Mumbai Man Arrested After Alleged Assault Using Disguise
Police say a 28-year-old man entered a woman’s home in Powai, Mumbai.
He allegedly said he was there to perform a ritual to protect the home from the evil eye.
Police say he pretended to be transgender and wore a saree.
After entering, he allegedly threatened the woman and sexually assaulted her.
The woman reported the incident to the Powai police.
Officers reviewed nearby security-camera footage.
They traced the man to Kharegaon in Thane and arrested him.
Police are telling people to verify strangers before letting them into their homes.
Police arrested 28-year-old Anil Sheshrao Shinde after an alleged sexual assault in Powai, Mumbai.
Police said Shinde entered the woman’s home on August 18 under the pretext of warding off the evil eye.
He allegedly went into the bedroom and threatened the woman with physical harm before the assault.
CCTV footage reportedly showed him leaving in an autorickshaw while wearing a saree and heading toward Kharegaon, Thane.
Police said Shinde had also posed as a beggar and urged residents not to admit unknown people into their homes.
