US, WHO Expand Emergency Support After Nepal Flash Floods

Flash floods and mudslides badly affected Nepal’s Rasuwa district near the Nepal-China border.

Many people died, and many others were reported missing.

The United States is sending a disaster response adviser and $500,000 to help people affected by the floods.

The money will pay for shelters, basic supplies, clean water, sanitation and hygiene support.

The World Health Organization sent medicines and large multipurpose tents.

Nepal’s government is leading search, rescue and relief efforts with help from the United Nations and other groups.

Officials are also working to find missing foreign citizens, including Americans.

The US Embassy is helping American citizens and telling them to follow local authorities’ instructions.

Nepal’s disaster authority reported 389 deaths and 977 missing people in its latest status report, although the earlier report described the toll less specifically.
