Indian Navy commissions MH-60R 'Ospreys' in Goa
The Indian Navy has added a new squadron called INAS 335, also known as the 'Ospreys,' at their base in Goa.
This squadron has special helicopters called MH-60R Seahawk, which can do many important jobs like finding submarines, helping in rescues, and fighting enemies at sea.
These helicopters are very advanced and can work from both land bases and big ships.
They replace older helicopters that the Navy has used for a long time.
The new squadron will help the Navy watch the seas better and respond quickly to any problems.
The ceremony to start this new squadron was led by the top Navy officer, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi.
The Indian Navy commissioned INAS 335, the 'Ospreys,' at INS Hansa, Goa on 17 December.
INAS 335 is the second squadron to operate MH-60R multi-role helicopters, after INAS 334 in Kochi.
The MH-60R Seahawk helicopters are state-of-the-art and can operate from shore bases and naval vessels.
These helicopters will enhance maritime domain awareness, anti-submarine warfare, and search-and-rescue operations.
The MH-60R will replace the British-made Sea King helicopters that have been in service for decades.
