India’s Private Space Sector Grows Through Self-Reliance Push

Digantara is an Indian company that works on watching objects in space.

Its founders say they started the company in 2018.

After a satellite carrying parts they supplied was hit by space debris, they saw a need to track objects in orbit.

India later opened its space sector to private companies and created an agency to support and authorise them.

Digantara says it received authorisation in 2022 and sent its first payload into orbit that year.

In January 2025, it launched SCOT, a space-surveillance mission.

The founders say government support helped the company build technology in India and work with partners abroad.

They believe this technology can help protect national assets in space.
